Rietveld believed a chair's first obligation was to the room, not the sitter — that furniture should function as an architectural object in space. The Press Room Chair holds that conviction without apology: seat and backrest lock into a geometric balance that echoes the Red and Blue Chair, his early manifesto for De Stijl, the Dutch movement built on orthogonal form and structural honesty. What surprises is the comfort. The swivel base — the only one in his entire body of work — is the single concession to ease.
